How to open an FBX file
- Click Open FBX Viewer.
- Drag & drop your
.fbxfile into the viewer. - Rotate, zoom, inspect materials, and preview the scene (and animations if present).
Tip: If textures don’t appear, the FBX may reference external image files that weren’t included. Try exporting with embedded media or upload textures alongside the FBX.
What is an FBX file?
FBX (Filmbox) is a popular 3D interchange format commonly used in game development, animation, and VFX pipelines. It can store meshes, materials, cameras, lights, skeletons/rigs, skinning, and animation data (depending on export settings).
FBX tips for best results
Some FBX files link to external textures. If materials look missing, export with embedded media or keep textures in the same folder when sharing.
FBX can carry units, but exports vary by app. If the model scale looks off, check the export unit settings (cm/m) and scale factor.
Different tools use different up-axes (Y-up vs Z-up). If a model is rotated, re-export with the correct axis conversion.
