The Tupolev Tu-144 was a Soviet supersonic passenger airliner developed by the Tupolev Design Bureau, serving as the world's first commercial supersonic transport to enter service. Its prototype made its maiden flight on 31 December 1968, two months before the Anglo-French Concorde, and became the first commercial transport to exceed Mach 2 on 26 May 1970.
