About the Catalytic Converter Simulation Project
Achieving a uniform flow distribution within a catalytic converter is crucial for enhancing its performance. An even flow distribution can improve efficiency, reduce pressure drop, and optimize engine performance. The flow distribution in a catalytic converter assembly is influenced by various factors, including the geometry configurations of the inlet and outlet cone sections, the substrate, and the composition of exhaust gases. Consequently, designing an efficient catalytic converter is of paramount importance. In this project (based on ansys CFX tutorial of catalytic converter), we will gain insights into the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling approach for visualizing the flow inside a catalytic converter. Inlet velocity of 25 m/s is used in this simulation. Catalyst coated honey-comb structure is modeled using porous domain with directional source of quadratic resistance. More details later.
