Apollo Spacecraft CFD Modeling
Computational Fluid Dynamics Modeling is commonly used to simulate entry vehicles from outer space into and through the gases of an atmosphere of earth. CFD Modeling can be used to analyze the entry vehicle under atmospheric drag, which puts mechanical stress on the vehicle, and aerodynamic heating—caused mostly by compression of the air in front of the vehicle, but also by drag. Resulting in partial or even complete disintegration/explosion of smaller objects. This project is about CFD modeling of supersonic flow around Apollo Spacecraft. Apollo was a spacecraft that was delevoped in 1960's. It was composed of three parts designed for landing astronauts on the Moon and returning them safely to Earth. In this project Mach number of 2.9 (1000m/s) is used. For turbulence modeling SST model is employed. Mesh used in this simulation consists of around 2.45 million elements. CFD software used here is ANSYS CFX. Check out the 'Refetch of...' for Mesh and 3D model of this project. Don't forget to share and like 👍 it. Enjoy!!
